Science Focus

We have been looking at the tide in Science and learning about how the tide is formed and the different tides there are.  Both year 7 & 8 have learn't about the phases of the moon and how these have an impact on the tides.  We have learnt why and how we have low and high tides and how sometimes during the month we have different tides like Spring and Neap tides.  We then looked at King tides and how the orbits of the earth and moon have to be at their Perigee and Perihelion in order for a king tide to occur.

Did you know that only New Zealand, Australia and some island's in the Pacific call it a King Tide other countries call it a perigean tide.
